Primary Teaching Application Tips

This time last year I was just like you panicking about the daunting application process and how I would fit all my experience into a tiny personal statement. From my application I was accepted to all PGDE courses in Scotland and in Ireland my Hibernia application was accepted too. Here are some tips to help you with your application!

1. Show them how amazing you are!

This is the most important thing in your application if they can’t see your passion for teaching they are not going to interview you.  This leads me onto my next tip.

2. Emphasise your experience

You may think that grades are important and to some extent they are but the most important thing is that you show that you love working with children and have experience working with them. I have spent every summer working in an outdoor activity centre with small children and as part of my degree I was able to spend six months in a local primary school. First of all i described my experience and then I told them what I had learned from my experience – always be positive.

3. Show off your good traits

Tell them what sort of a person you are- hard-working, kind, approachable.

The first three points are vital for your personal statement, they show them what sort of a person you are and how dedicated you are to the teaching profession.

4. Be organised

For the actual application you need to be organised.

Before you open your application take note of all the key dates such as when it needs to be in for, when could you be called for interview etc.  Then I would write down all your colleges grades for every module and its name on a sheet of paper, all your leaving cert or A level grades.  Before I open your application I would also have your personal statement saved on a word docment so you can easily transfer it over.

Once you have it all ready I would begin your application.

The application process is not difficult you just need to show what an amazing teacher you will be and prove that you have researched it and have experience working with children.

Be yourself and Good Luck!

Next blogpost will be the interview process!

Max Factor Creme Puff Blush

When I saw these  Max Factor Creme Puff blushes, I knew I had to have them! They are hella gorgeous and they promise to contour, blush and highlight. You can count me in. Like everything these day’s all products have to be multi-tasking so let’s see if it stand up to the test.

I NEVER wear blush so this is new to me. The reason why I don’t wear blush is because I am very conscious of the redness in my skin and tend to spend ages conceal in it, so I have never dipped into blush really as I always find it emphasises the redness and let’s be honest, who wants that?

These in my opinions are the drugstore version of the Hourglass blushes. Have you seen them? They are equally as gorgeous! But reading many reviews online I think these Max Factor blushes may give Hourglass a run for their money.

There are 6 shades in the range. From a peachy pink  to brown pink  to berry for deeper skinniness. There is a blush for everyone in this range. I chose 10 Nude Mauve. As you can see this is a brown-y pink shade which I thought wouldn’t bring out my redness. It doesn’t!

These blushes are very silky in texture and blend so well into the skin. And the shade is perfect. It bronzes the skin whilst adding the tiniest amount of peachy pink tones to add a flush of cover and the highlight is really nice. No disco balls to be found here! I really love this blush and for someone who doesn’t wear blusher that is a statement.

What other shades do you recommend from this range? They are €11.49 in boots and well worth the money!

Cranberry Smokey Eye

IMG_4005 IMG_4006

Im a huge fan of a smokey eye but a cranberry smokey eye is probably my most worn and most loved smokey eye. Unusual I know, but i just love the pop of colour and its something unusual.

So for this post Im saying embrace colour and let’s get our smoke on!

To crete this eye look, I used all MAC cosmetics eyeshadows. The shades I used to create this look were Cranberry, Sketch (deep purple) and Wedge (soft brown).

1. Apply a primer to your lids, I used MAC Soft Orche surprise surprise!

2. Apply wedge into the crease with a fluffy brush this is going to be our transition colour.

3. With a flat shader brush apply cranberry (isn’t it beautiful) all over the lids. I like to pat it on to get an intense colour.

3. Blend Blend Blend with the brush you used to apply Wedge (fluffy brush)

4. Apply sketch to the outer third of your eye with the other side of your flat brush, you could use a clean one but Im too lazy!

5. Blend Blend Blend the outer corner with the same fluffy brush.

6. Apply wedge to the lower lash line with a pencil brush

7. Apply cranberry to the outer half of the lower lash line with a pencil brush.

8. Voila ladies you’re done!

You can add liner if you wish I didn’t in this picture but sometimes I do. Its up to you!

Tell me what you think of this look and if your recreate it tag me in it or #laurenaalice so I can find it!

Sephora Waterproof Eye Make Up Remover Review

Sephora Eye Make Up Remover

I wear waterproof mascara everyday, yes I know I am crazy but it is the only way my lashes hold a curl. So the hunt for the best eye make up remover started. I went to Boots and there offering just didn’t take off my mascara fully.  Sephora make up remover is a two part solution which you have to shake up so that the oil mixes in. I use this remover on a cotton pad and it gently dissolves my mascara and eye make up and just wipes it away.

The Good

  • removes all traces of mascara
  • doesn’t irritate the eyes
  • Don’t need to rub the eyes to remove it

The BAD

  • It does leave an oily residue which I personally don’t mind as I wash my face fully afterwards.
  • There no Sephora in Ireland 🙁 but you can buy it online.
