Halo Smokey Eye using MAC Club

Today I was inspired by Samantha from Batalash Beauty. She did I look similar to this on her youtube channel and I thought I would do my take on it.

For my eyes I used my favourite transition colour Too Faced Peanut Butter, To deepen my crease I used MAC Swiss Chocolate. I blended until my arms hurt with a MAC 217 and a Blank Canvas E26 brush! My ride or die brushes!

In the centre of my lids I used MAC Club (how pretty is it!) with a wet Blank Canvas E24 brush. I pressed this colour into my lid and then i just gentle buffed out the edges using the same brush is wiggling motions at the edge!

To further deepen the outside corner I used Too Faced Truffle a gorgeous deep brown and then I went back in with the brush I used to buff out peanut butter to blend all the shades together. To really make the centre pop I added a bit more MAC club.

To finish off I smoked some Peanut butter onto the lower lash line and applied Benefit Roller Lash Mascara.

What do you think of this eye look?

Its still neutral and warm but I think the pop of green/brown in the centre is gorgeous! MAC Club is a duo chrome eyeshadow so in some lights is looks green and in other brown!

Top Tips to be Organised and Productive in College

College Organisation

Although I have always been pretty organised, to the point I like to organise everyone around me! I thought I would share some of my tips to help you in life and more importantly in college.

  1. Attitude: Nothing beats a positive attitude. I know it can be hard sometimes but it makes such a difference when you need to tackle something such as those chores or a college assignment.
  2. Planner: Get yourself a planner (I use a filofax) It will keep you so organised and the prettier the better.
  3. Use your planner: There is not point having one if you are not going to use it . Do you want to see a planner blog post next? Comment below!
  4. To Do List: I write these on a hourly, daily, weekly basis! I am obsessed and I have a rule that if I write it down I have to do it. To Do lists just keep you focused.
  5. Sundays: Before the week starts I like to sit down and plan my week see whats coming up, what I want to achieve. You can be as quick or slow at this as you like. When I know what I have to do for the week it focuses me and I don’t have to check my planner as much.
  6. Make an Assignment List: I do this at the start of every semesters at the end  of week one when you know what assignments are due and when. I just open a word document and write out all my assignment and when they are due and then I re-orgainse them into date order. I also put tick boxes along the side! Nothing better than ticking off tasks!
  7. Morning Routine: Try to get up at the same time every morning even on the weekends. I try to get up between 6:30/7.
  8. Yoga: I have always loved yoga but now that I am practicing it everyday. I have noticed such a huge difference in myself! and not just the fact I can now touch my toes without screaming! Yoga not only stretches out your body, it relaxes you by just giving you some me time! I can’t imagine my mornings without it now!
  9. Figure out your most productive time: I know that I get nothing done between 3-5. I just have no focus at this time so I tend to do more “doing” tasks such as cleaning my room or relaxing. Its only two hours out of your day so I wouldn’t stress if you know you don’t work at this time. My most productive time is 8-11am and 6:30-9:30pm. I tend to do most of my college work during these hours
  10. Clean Desk Clean Mind: I am a huge believer in having a clean clutter free desk, I clean it after every task by putting these away just 5 minutes of doing this makes a huge difference.

Those are my ten tips. I hope you enjoy this type of blogpost and it comes in useful. Tweet me @laurenaalice if you liked it and want to see more! You can also tweet me your tips because I love to hear them! I know this is a little different to normal but I love these type of blog posts.

Happy Sunday x

Purple Glitter Smokey Eye

MAC came out with a new formulation of eye shadows called Dazzleshadows last year. Most of them sold out within minutes but I managed to get Cant Stop Don’t Stop which is  gorgeous cranberry/purple colour.  When I first used these eyeshadows I wasn’t that impressed I was expecting some serious colour and glitter. The best way I have found to apply them is with a damp brush and then press them into the lid.

To create this eye look I used

Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette shade Peanut Butter (my ride or die shade for all looks)

MAC Swiss Chocolate to deepen.

MAC DAZZLE SHADOW in Cant Stop Don’t Stop on the lid.

I used the Maybelline Gel liner to hide my lash band. Lashes were Ardell Demi Whispies!

What do you think of this look? Its a little different from my usual warm toned smokey eyes.

Thoughts on Bare Minerals Bare Skin Foundation

BareMinerals came out with a new foundation formula this year called Bare Skin. Its is a brightening serum foundation that leaves your skin with a smooth natural finish.

Bare Skin comes in 20 shades and I would strongly suggest your get a few testers before purchasing because the shade on the outside of the bottle is lighter than what is inside. I was first given the shade Bare Natural 07 which is way to dark for me, I went back in and was them matched to Bare Linen 03. That is a huge difference in shades. So definitely test it out and don’t purchase before you do.

The formula needs to be shaken before you use it as it separates easily. A little bit goes along way for this foundation and the coverage is amazing. It can be sheer or full depending on what you prefer.  As for the finish, if you put too much on you can feel it on your skin for awhile but it does dry in and you don’t feel it anymore.

I got the brush that is meant for this foundation and I wouldn’t recommend it, it left my face streaky so skip that. I apply mine with the Real Techniques Blending Sponge (like the beauty blender). Gives its a smooth finish and it really pushes it into the skin.

Bare Skin is £26/€31

What are you thoughts on this foundation? I think it gives amazing coverage and a flawless finish just make sure you pick the right shade.

10 Tips for College Exam Week

“This is The Beginning of Anything You Want”

Its coming up to that time of year when your college assignments are almost finished and its time to start studying for exam week. But don’t panic I have 10 tips to help you coming up to your exam weeks to help you get through it.

  1. PLAN

I plan everything I like to have all my task written down. I am a very visual person so I like to make a big chart of the the things I need to learn for each exam and then I break them down into smaller sections that I can tackle each day to the exam.

2.  HAVE YOUR NOTES IN ORDER

This is something you should have been doing from the start but if you haven’t don’t worry there is still time. Organise your notes, write out the powerpoint only including important information. I file my notes by section so that when I come to study I can just take that section out and I can ignore the rest.

3. FIND YOUR STUDY HAPPY PLACE

This might be in the library, just FYI I hate the library. I am so unproductive in there.  For me I like to study in a  corner in my room that is for study only. I like to be able to spread my stuff out and get as many cups of tea as I want!

4. TAKE BREAKS

On that note you need to take breaks, I vary how I take breaks sometimes its after I finish a task or its after 50 minutes.

5.  TAKE NOTES FROM YOUR LECTURERS

If you listen carefully they drop hints all through the semester and let you know what there looking for in an answer.

6.  GET SAMPLE PAPER

Don’t let the first time you see an exam paper be in the exam! Print a few out and just bullet point what you would include in your answer. It really helps you to focus and to help you seek the gaps.

7.  REMEMBER THE END GOAL

We are all doing this for one reason, for it to end and we can move on to our careers. You have to be focused and realise its not forever.

8.  RELAX

Practice some mindfulness whether it is some yoga or my favourite some colouring or reading a book. Take some time out to relax.

9.  SWITCH OFF AT 9PM

I have always had a cut off point of 9pm even the night before exams. There is nothing worse than being tired. Get to bed earlier relax. The night before an exam, I read over some last minute bullet points and subconsciously you will be thinking about them in your sleep. Little bit creepy but its only for a night!  With switching off at 9pm you need to be up early. I aim to get up around 6:30/7 everyday you will be amazed with how much you get down when your up that earlier.

10.  BE POSITIVE

You are going to get the grades if you put in the effort. So don’t stress and it will be over before you know it.
