Primary Teaching Application Tips

This time last year I was just like you panicking about the daunting application process and how I would fit all my experience into a tiny personal statement. From my application I was accepted to all PGDE courses in Scotland and in Ireland my Hibernia application was accepted too. Here are some tips to help you with your application!

1. Show them how amazing you are!

This is the most important thing in your application if they can’t see your passion for teaching they are not going to interview you.  This leads me onto my next tip.

2. Emphasise your experience

You may think that grades are important and to some extent they are but the most important thing is that you show that you love working with children and have experience working with them. I have spent every summer working in an outdoor activity centre with small children and as part of my degree I was able to spend six months in a local primary school. First of all i described my experience and then I told them what I had learned from my experience – always be positive.

3. Show off your good traits

Tell them what sort of a person you are- hard-working, kind, approachable.

The first three points are vital for your personal statement, they show them what sort of a person you are and how dedicated you are to the teaching profession.

4. Be organised

For the actual application you need to be organised.

Before you open your application take note of all the key dates such as when it needs to be in for, when could you be called for interview etc.  Then I would write down all your colleges grades for every module and its name on a sheet of paper, all your leaving cert or A level grades.  Before I open your application I would also have your personal statement saved on a word docment so you can easily transfer it over.

Once you have it all ready I would begin your application.

The application process is not difficult you just need to show what an amazing teacher you will be and prove that you have researched it and have experience working with children.

Be yourself and Good Luck!

Next blogpost will be the interview process!

Too Faced Blueberry Swirl

Today I was feeling a little more adventurous and decided to use the gorgeous blueberry swirl colour from the Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar palette.

The top of my eyes is the usual peanut butter and truffle combo with bon bon as my shimmery colour.

The bottom is where the drama happens with the gorgeous blueberry swirl colour which is buffed out with ingot 332 eye shadow.

What do you think of this look?

I filmed it so it will be up on my youtube by the end of the weekend. Make sure you are subscribed so you can see it.

The Power of To Do Lists

Some people love to do lists, some people don’t get them and can do them mentally. I personally find nothing more satisfying than ticking off a to do list.

I break my to do list into sections. I use different colours for the,  so I have cleaning, college, irish sometimes blogging. I just section off what I need to do that day.

Under each section I write the task. I normally always write cleaning first as I like to get that out of the way and I am a firm believer in tidy desk tidy mind! I try to only spend twenty minutes  on each task so I can then move onto the next sometimes I need to go back to finish it but I work best in twenty blocks with a 10 minute break. Sometimes I do my cleaning in the break! I find it therapeutic.

Make sure you tick off everything you do and sometimes you do things that weren’t on your to do list and I write them in after too so you can see how productive your day was.

What are your thoughts on To do lists? Do you love them hate them?

Halo Smokey Eye using MAC Club

Today I was inspired by Samantha from Batalash Beauty. She did I look similar to this on her youtube channel and I thought I would do my take on it.

For my eyes I used my favourite transition colour Too Faced Peanut Butter, To deepen my crease I used MAC Swiss Chocolate. I blended until my arms hurt with a MAC 217 and a Blank Canvas E26 brush! My ride or die brushes!

In the centre of my lids I used MAC Club (how pretty is it!) with a wet Blank Canvas E24 brush. I pressed this colour into my lid and then i just gentle buffed out the edges using the same brush is wiggling motions at the edge!

To further deepen the outside corner I used Too Faced Truffle a gorgeous deep brown and then I went back in with the brush I used to buff out peanut butter to blend all the shades together. To really make the centre pop I added a bit more MAC club.

To finish off I smoked some Peanut butter onto the lower lash line and applied Benefit Roller Lash Mascara.

What do you think of this eye look?

Its still neutral and warm but I think the pop of green/brown in the centre is gorgeous! MAC Club is a duo chrome eyeshadow so in some lights is looks green and in other brown!

Top Tips to be Organised and Productive in College

College Organisation

Although I have always been pretty organised, to the point I like to organise everyone around me! I thought I would share some of my tips to help you in life and more importantly in college.

  1. Attitude: Nothing beats a positive attitude. I know it can be hard sometimes but it makes such a difference when you need to tackle something such as those chores or a college assignment.
  2. Planner: Get yourself a planner (I use a filofax) It will keep you so organised and the prettier the better.
  3. Use your planner: There is not point having one if you are not going to use it . Do you want to see a planner blog post next? Comment below!
  4. To Do List: I write these on a hourly, daily, weekly basis! I am obsessed and I have a rule that if I write it down I have to do it. To Do lists just keep you focused.
  5. Sundays: Before the week starts I like to sit down and plan my week see whats coming up, what I want to achieve. You can be as quick or slow at this as you like. When I know what I have to do for the week it focuses me and I don’t have to check my planner as much.
  6. Make an Assignment List: I do this at the start of every semesters at the end  of week one when you know what assignments are due and when. I just open a word document and write out all my assignment and when they are due and then I re-orgainse them into date order. I also put tick boxes along the side! Nothing better than ticking off tasks!
  7. Morning Routine: Try to get up at the same time every morning even on the weekends. I try to get up between 6:30/7.
  8. Yoga: I have always loved yoga but now that I am practicing it everyday. I have noticed such a huge difference in myself! and not just the fact I can now touch my toes without screaming! Yoga not only stretches out your body, it relaxes you by just giving you some me time! I can’t imagine my mornings without it now!
  9. Figure out your most productive time: I know that I get nothing done between 3-5. I just have no focus at this time so I tend to do more “doing” tasks such as cleaning my room or relaxing. Its only two hours out of your day so I wouldn’t stress if you know you don’t work at this time. My most productive time is 8-11am and 6:30-9:30pm. I tend to do most of my college work during these hours
  10. Clean Desk Clean Mind: I am a huge believer in having a clean clutter free desk, I clean it after every task by putting these away just 5 minutes of doing this makes a huge difference.

Those are my ten tips. I hope you enjoy this type of blogpost and it comes in useful. Tweet me @laurenaalice if you liked it and want to see more! You can also tweet me your tips because I love to hear them! I know this is a little different to normal but I love these type of blog posts.

Happy Sunday x

Purple Glitter Smokey Eye

MAC came out with a new formulation of eye shadows called Dazzleshadows last year. Most of them sold out within minutes but I managed to get Cant Stop Don’t Stop which is  gorgeous cranberry/purple colour.  When I first used these eyeshadows I wasn’t that impressed I was expecting some serious colour and glitter. The best way I have found to apply them is with a damp brush and then press them into the lid.

To create this eye look I used

Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette shade Peanut Butter (my ride or die shade for all looks)

MAC Swiss Chocolate to deepen.

MAC DAZZLE SHADOW in Cant Stop Don’t Stop on the lid.

I used the Maybelline Gel liner to hide my lash band. Lashes were Ardell Demi Whispies!

What do you think of this look? Its a little different from my usual warm toned smokey eyes.
